April 2024 blend of links
Some links don’t call for a full blog post, but sometimes I still want to share some of the good stuff I encounter on the web.
AI isn’t useless. But is it worth it?・You know how sometimes we say things like “I wish I had written this”? Well, Molly White wrote exactly how I feel about A.I. and I agree with like 99.99% of everything she says, so yeah, I wish I had written this. I read it twice and listened to it once on the podcast version, excellent read.
My comments are in the Google Doc linked in the Dropbox I sent in the Slack・It’s funny because it’s true. (via Kottke)
DevUtils・I don’t really see myself using this app, but it looks so well made and feature rich. Some of you readers might find this particularly useful, so I want to share it because I didn’t know about it myself until very recently. (via Do By Friday)
Give Us $1 Or ‘The Onion’ Disappears Forever・Funny and effective way to make me give $1, which, as an immense fan of the website, I gladly did. From what I could read on the new ownership of the Onion, it seems like it might end up being a good thing. Only time will tell, but we seldom see such intentions behind media buyouts these days.
Bill Gates, Man United and 20 other sites that ban linking to them・This one had me scratching my head for a while. (via Nick Heer)
The Big Sur-ification of macOS Icons・Oh, the laziness of some companies. Yes, I’m looking at you, Microsoft.
DontEvenReply.com・An old website that hasn’t been updated in a while, but somehow I never knew about it. Definitely not for everyone, but it made me laugh out loud many times, and I’m now almost finished reading the website in full.
Strasbourg, UNESCO World Book Capital 2024・It’s hard for me not to mention that my city is hosting a lot of great events about books, literature, and culture in 2024. If you’re planning a visit to the beautiful city of Strasbourg, make sure to reserve some time for a coffee with yours truly.
