June 2024 blend of links

Some links don’t call for a full blog post, but sometimes I still want to share some of the good stuff I encounter on the web.

Diesel the escaped pet donkey found living with elk after five years・This story is an animated movie waiting to be made.

Chaka Khan: Tiny Desk Concert・I discovered Chaka Khan as a teenager through De La Soul’s All Good and have been a big admirer ever since. She doesn’t seem to age, and neither do some of her best songs. (via Kottke)

Macron’s reckless gamble shows how little he cares about the fate of French people like me, Rokhaya Diallo・Great column and excellent summary of the dire political situation we find ourselves in France.

50 Completely True Things, Mo Husseini・A humbling and important read, although I have reasonable doubts about the truthfulness of the very last point, as it is a highly debated topic.

We can have a different web, Molly White・Just like Craig Mod’s Fast Software, the Best Software, this post will end up being linked to many times by a lot of people like myself.

Music Today, Nick Heer・A great post that had me nodding in agreement throughout. I’d just add that sometimes streaming services strangely miss some albums or tracks. This is where YouTube really is unbeatable.

Light Phone・This kind of minimal phone has always been more or less available in the past decade or so, but without any commercial success. This time around, probably already bored with the A.I. stuff that is seemingly everywhere, I’ve never been more interested in such a simple device. This one also looks pretty cool and elegant, in a weird retro-BlackBerry way, which I like. (via Minimalissimo)

TeuxDeux Notes・The great web-based TeuxDeux finally has a note feature on top of its excellent task management system. If I were still using a Windows PC, this is what I would use for work. (via Meanwhile)

The Nordic Baking Book, Magnus Nilsson・All the recipes we tried from this book have turned out amazing — almost magical — results. Highly, highly recommended.

Crows evolve new blond look concluding 17-million-year goth phase・”Finally, after millions of years of unnecessary angst and aggression, the Corvus brachyrhynchos has decided to grow up and act and look like the adult birds they are.
