May 2024 blend of links

Some links don’t call for a full blog post, but sometimes I still want to share some of the good stuff I encounter on the web.

Orangutan seen treating wound with medicinal herb in first for wild animals・Beautiful and incredible discovery.

This is he・Ryan O’Flanagan is one of my favourite comedians in recent years, and I don’t understand why his videos aren’t reaching hundreds of thousands of views.

Google is (still) losing the spam wars to zombie news-brands・Excellent summary of what is wrong with Google and Google Search, and this was published even before the recent leaked documents, shedding an even harsher light on everything Google has been doing in the last decade or so. (via Dan Gilmor)

Abandoned blogs・I have spent more time browsing through this list than I care to admit. (via Nick Heer)

Maven・I like the idea of this social network: it doesn’t show how many followers someone has, and doesn’t tell how many likes a post receives… This should have come out a decade ago and maybe I would have given it a chance, but still cool to see.

Swiss posters・This is great for someone like me who really appreciates the so-called “Swiss style” graphic design, but this should be a blog instead of an Instagram account. Yes, I still miss the Tumblr days.

A desk setup for two・Incredibly detailed description of Arun Venkatesan’s office setup. This post can quickly transform into a shopping list for our future home. (via Om Malik)

Internet Artifacts・I rediscovered this site recently and it feels like an online museum. This is the kind of website that should come bookmarked by default in every browser. (via Winnie Lim)

Universal Principles of Typography・This book will probably end up in my collection, even though I’m not a designer and won’t have any use for it, ever. That’s how great it looks.

Explain That Stuff・So good that I still don’t understand why I am struggling to remember visiting this website instead of YouTube or Wikipedia when I wonder about how something works, which happens quite often.
